Brown rat

Rattus norvegicus (Berkenhout 1769)

Large rodent that is easily differentiated from its relative, the black rat, by its coloration and by having a more rounded snout and a tail that does not exceed the length of the head-body. It presents grey coloration on the back that delimits with a lighter or yellowish tone on the belly. It is an omnivorous species with nocturnal and crepuscular habits. A commensal species of man that has managed to colonize practically the entire world. It occupies practically the entire peninsular territory and the archipelagos. Apart from having an anthropic distribution, linked to man, it seems that certain environmental requirements such as temperature and a certain degree of humidity condition and regulate this distribution. The reproductive cycle takes place practically throughout the year depending on the available resources. Very rare species, it does not exceed 1% of the catches of the SEMICE projec
